Advent visits local schools

Two Midlands reporters have been sharing their experiences behind the headlines with budding young journalists from Coventry and Warwickshire.

Simon Gilbert, from Coventry, and Lee Corden, from Bedworth, were given time off from public relations and media consultants Advent Communications to pass on their journalistic knowledge to enthusiastic primary school pupils.

Simon, 24, visited year six pupils at Keresley Newland Primary School in Coventry while Lee, 31, was invited to talk to year two pupils at Arden Forest Primary School in Bulkington.

The inquisitive youngsters asked questions about what makes a good story and which celebrities they have interviewed as well as if journalists get tired fingers from typing.

Jordan Risebrow, year six literacy co-ordinator at Keresley Newland Primary School, said: “The children have been working really hard on writing and focusing on the main features of good journalism.

“Simon helped to make the process more real as he is a journalist and the children had great fun.”
