Advent PR help Coventry City win award

Advent Communications and Coventry City are celebrating after the club’s match-day programme was named the best in the Championship.

The 84-page publication was awarded the prestigious title by Programme Monthly ahead of Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers in second and third place.

The programme is produced by Coventry City’s in-house designer and editor, Carl Newell, while Advent provides in-depth interviews, features and subbing staff alongside the club’s press office and external contributors.

This season’s publication has featured a host of special features to commemorate the club’s 125th anniversary season as well as interviews with current and former players – including Terry Butcher, Stuart Pearce and John Sillett.

A spokesman for Programme Monthly said: “The top programme in the Championship is that of Coventry City, which for several seasons has quietly gone about its business to the delight of its buyers.

“It has steadily been improving its impressive content and presentation until at last, this season, it has emerged as the best in its division.”

Last year, the club picked up the Continued Excellence award from Programme Monthly and the best Championship Programme by the Football Programme Directory.

Newell said: “Because of the 125th anniversary, it was very important that we reflected the history of the club but not to the detriment of what’s happening in the here and now.

“So we’ve dedicated a whole section to history including a look at old programmes, historic matches and former players while charting each period of the club’s illustrious history.

“At the same time, we wanted to maintain the current player features prominence and have dedicated six pages to it. Added to that, we’ve mixed in light-hearted pieces such as the head-to-head quiz between two players and the inside-out feature.

“It’s meant a great deal of hard work for the writers both here and at Advent but I am sure it is the attention to detail and the blend of the old and the new that has set us apart from others in the division.

“This award is a great seal of approval for what we have all been trying to achieve and is a testament to everyone’s hard work – including several external contributors to the programme.”
