Young enterprise talents gives Advent a buzz

There will definitely be a buzz around the Coventry and Warwickshire representatives at the next stage of a national enterprise competition.

More Bees – the company formed by pupils at St Thomas More School in Nuneaton as part of the Young Enterprise Company Programme – won the Coventry and Warwickshire final, beating competition from six other finalists from schools and colleges in the area.

They will now go forward to the West Midlands final on June 18 in Birmingham where they will be looking to clinch a place in the national final.

Their business idea was based on the dwindling bee population in the UK. The students – aged 16 and 17 – designed and built bee boxes to attract bees and sold them to the public, schools and retail outlets.

They recorded a healthy profit but also had to highlight the fact they had grasped ten areas of business including marketing, finance and teamwork.

Judges at the Coventry & Warwickshire final at Coventry University included Advent Communications’ own Lee Corden, who presented the award for Best Presentation on the night.

“The standard was extremely high,” said Lee. “All of the teams deserve great credit but More Bees stood out.”
